Chelsea crashed out of the FA Cup on Saturday night as Brighton came from behind to reach the fifth round with a 2-1 win.

The Blues were gifted an early lead when Bart Verbruggen somehow bundled a tame Cole Palmer cross into his own net.

However, the Seagulls hit back almost immediately through Georgina Rutter, before Kauro Mitoma’s clever finish soon after the break proved the decisive goal.

Here’s how Enzo Maresca’s side rated at the Amex Stadium...

Robert Sanchez 5

Selection in the cup perhaps confirmed his demotion to No2 but was composed in his distribution against former club.

Malo Gusto 5

Back at right-back with Reece James missing. Did a decent job on Mitoma for the most part but could do little about his dart for the goal.

Trevor Chalobah 4

Lost his bearings after winning initial clearing header in lead up to Georgina Rutter goal. Dived in on same player at start of move for second.

Tosin Adarabioyo 4

Got away with one dreadful mistake when Rutter almost ran away, then should have cleared danger before Mitoma goal.

Marc Cucurella 6

A rough night for the full-back, who got plenty of crowd stick and was nailed by Joel Veltman. Vital back-post clearance from Rutter’s cross.

Moises Caicedo 6

Another ex-Seagull. Displayed his underrated range of passing with some incisive balls from deep. His team’s best player on the night. Booked.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall 5

A big opportunity in the more advanced Enzo Fernandez role but faded after some bright early touches. Another who missed chance to clear in lead up to Mitoma goal.

Pedro Neto 6

Enjoyable battle with Tariq Lamptey down the right. Gave Chelsea an injury scare but recovered to look most likely forward.

Cole Palmer 5

Could not believe his luck when Bart Verbruggen bundled his tame cross in but well below his best otherwise. Hooked a chance not dissimilar to Mitoma’s well wide.

Jadon Sancho 4

A thoroughly underwhelming display from the Englishman.

Christopher Nkunku 4

In theory Chelsea’s only fit striker but showed why Maresca considers him a No10. Spent too much time dropping deep when Chelsea needed a focal point.

Substitutes

Enzo Fernandez (Dewsbury-Hall 58’) 6

Immediately more involved than the man he replaced.

Noni Madueke (Neto 74’) N/A

Should have come on sooner.

Tyrique George (Sancho 74’) N/A

One lively dart but blazed over.

Unused: Jorgensen, Anselmino, Colwill, Acheampong, Ishe Samuels-Smith, Amougou.
